- Understanding our atmosphere – Management of the working atmosphere. The need for ventilation.
- Inert gases and oxygen depletion – Hazards posed when handling inert gases.
- Oxidants and oxygen enrichment – Combustion triangle. The hazards posed by oils and greases. Incidents caused by oxygen and oil. The potential problems posed by PTFE tape. The need to leak test with approved solutions.
- Fuel gases and flammability – Flammability ranges. Thermal decomposition of acetylene. Properties of propane, acetylene and hydrogen.
- Hazards posed by gas cylinders – Design and function of cylinder valves. Do’s and don’ts with gas cylinders. Cylinder identification. Using gas cylinders safely.
- Gas control equipment – Safe working procedures with regulators and hoses.
- Handling gas cylinders safely – Do’s and don’ts when moving gas cylinders. Personal protective equipment.
- Storing gas cylinders safely – Key principles in storing compressed gas cylinders safely; includes design, construction, location, segregation and emergency procedures.
- Practical session – Staff will set-up, pressurise and leak test a single cylinder nitrogen system. The session will cover:
- Visual checks on the gas cylinder and valve
- Visual checks on the regulator and gauges
- Correct fitting of the regulator
- Visual checks and correct fitting of the hose
- Opening the cylinder valve safely
- Setting the correct working pressure
- Correct leak test procedures
- Rectification of leaks
- Closing the cylinder valve and safely releasing residual pressure
WHO IS THE TRAINING FOR?
This training workshop is designed for people who use laboratory gases for a variety of purposes and want practical guidance on safely connecting and operating gas equipment. It combines essential safety awareness theory with a hands-on session where delegates will set up, pressurise and leak test a single cylinder nitrogen system, covering the correct use of regulators, hoses and cylinder valves, as well as safe pressure setting and leak rectification procedures.

PRICING
The price is £1975.00 for up to 6 staff inclusive of certification and support documentation. Additional staff are £125.00 per head, up to a maximum of 12 staff. VAT is payable at the standard rate.
