Using Laboratory Gases Safely including Manifold Systems

• Understanding our atmosphere – Management of the working atmosphere. The need for ventilation.
• Inert gases and oxygen depletion – Hazards posed when handling inert gases.
• Oxidants and oxygen enrichment – Combustion triangle. The hazards posed by oils and greases. Incidents caused by oxygen and oil. The potential problems posed by PTFE tape. The need to leak test with approved solutions.
• Fuel gases and flammability – Flammability ranges. Thermal decomposition of acetylene. Properties of propane, acetylene and hydrogen.
• Hazards posed by gas cylinders – Design and function of cylinder valves. Do’s and don’ts with gas cylinders. Cylinder identification. Using gas cylinders safely.
• Gas control equipment – Safe working procedures with regulators and hoses.
• Manifold systems – Information on the safe use of fixed piped gas supply manifold systems.
• Handling gas cylinders safely – Do’s and don’ts when moving gas cylinders. Personal protective equipment.
• Storing gas cylinders safely – Key principles in storing compressed gas cylinders safely; includes design, construction, location, segregation and emergency procedures.

This training workshop is designed for people who use, handle and store compressed gas cylinders and associated equipment within a laboratory or other similar environment and who use fixed piped gas supply manifold systems.

It consists of safety awareness theory and includes a section on the correct operation of a manifold system.

The price is £1425.00 for up to 6 staff inclusive of certification and support documentation. Additional staff are £80.00 per head, up to a maximum of 20 staff. VAT is payable at the standard rate.
