- Introduction – Outline of workshop content and objectives.
- Understanding our atmosphere – What’s in the air? Management of the working atmosphere. The need for ventilation.
- Inert gases and oxygen depletion – Hazards posed when handling inert gases.
- Oxidants and oxygen enrichment – Combustion triangle. The hazards posed by oils and greases. Incidents caused by oxygen and oil. The potential problems posed by PTFE tape. The need to leak test with approved solutions.
- Fuel gases and flammability – Flammability ranges. Thermal decomposition of acetylene. Properties of propane, acetylene and hydrogen.
- Hazards posed when handling and using liquid nitrogen.
- Expansion rates (liquid:gas ratio) and oxygen deficiency.
- The need for atmospheric monitoring.
- Team exercise – Inert gas rescue.
- Hazards posed by gas cylinders – Design and function of cylinder valves. Do’s and don’ts with gas cylinders. Cylinder identification. Using gas cylinders safely.
- Personal protective equipment – Correct selection and use.
- Design and function of liquid nitrogen vessels.
- The hazards posed by pressure.
- Safe handling of gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen vessels.
- Safe storage of gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen vessels.
- Piped systems (if required) – Information on the safe use of fixed piped gas supply manifold systems.
WHO IS THE TRAINING FOR?
This training workshop is designed for people who use, handle or store compressed gas cylinders, cryogenic liquids and associated equipment in a laboratory or similar environment. Information on the safe use of fixed piped gas supply manifold systems can be included if required.
It consists of safety awareness theory only. It can be run in isolation or you can also book one of its supplementary practical workshops.
PRICING
The price is £1650.00 for up to 6 staff inclusive of certification and support documentation. Additional staff are £80.00 per head, up to a maximum of 20 staff. VAT is payable at the standard rate.
