We recently undertook a Safe Use of Single Cylinders and Manifold Systems practical workshop at a prestigious bioscience centre.
About the Bioscience Centre
The centre provides a focus for life sciences activity and offers exceptionally high standard laboratory and office facilities to more than 50 biotechnology and life science companies, including small start-ups and more established players. The centre attracts biotechnology, life science product and diagnostic companies, contract research organisations, medical device companies and service providers.
Attendee Backgrounds
The attendees’ backgrounds ranged from little or no experience with gases, to individuals who had used gases previously in a laboratory environment but had no formal training. The Health and Safety department attended in order to gain an understanding of gas safety and their responsibilities with respect to compliance.
The laboratory managers and users wanted to gain more familiarity with their gas system and how to use it safely and correctly.
Understanding the Gas System
The client has CO2 and nitrogen gas piped into their facility. The main source of the gas is from liquid Cryospeed size tanks. Our trainer explained how their liquified gas system operates and the essential role of their cylinder backup system.
Hands-On Training and Safety Insights
The training included a ‘hands on’ session which involved changing their cylinder backup manifold setup. In addition, due to the location of the facility (in a city centre) our trainer identified numerous hazards which were highlighted to the staff and time was taken to offer practical solutions regarding safer operating procedures.
Positive Feedback from Staff
The training was well received, with attendees praising the session’s clarity, practicality, and interactive approach:
The trainer was amazing with us, incredibly patient and answered all our questions no matter how silly they were, he gave us all a hands-on experience which I believe was extremely beneficial. He really gave us a better understanding of gases and our system.
I found the cylinder safety session enjoyable and informative. The instructor was an excellent teacher who presented the material clearly and effectively. The session was valuable for understanding cylinder safety protocols.
Summary
Comprehensive gas cylinder safety training is essential for any laboratory or research facility working with compressed gases. Our hands-on workshops provide practical experience, expert guidance, and tailored safety solutions to ensure compliance and confidence in handling gas systems. Whether your team has no prior experience or simply needs a refresher, our training can help.
