Liquid Nitrogen Training in Temperature Calibration

Temperature Calibration for Liquid Nitrogen

We recently undertook a liquid nitrogen decanting workshop for a company that has been pioneering the latest developments in temperature calibration and measurement for over 40 years.

The company develop innovative solutions for calibration facilities in over 125 countries. They are unique in their approach, in that not only do they manufacture equipment, but they also operate their own full scale UKAS accredited laboratory.

Operating their own laboratory has given them a deep understanding of the challenges that organisations utilising temperature calibration and measurement devices face. Problems which they answer with their huge variety of calibration solutions.

Key Takeaways

  • Liquid nitrogen plays a key role in precision temperature calibration.
  • A leading calibration company opted for a refresher safety workshop.
  • The training covered theory and practical elements of LN2 handling.
  • Positive staff feedback highlighted course clarity and instructor quality.
  • Tailored workshops help ensure safety and compliance in cryogenic environments.

Why Liquid Nitrogen is Used in Temperature Calibration

Liquid nitrogen is commonly used in temperature calibration processes due to its ability to maintain extremely low and stable temperatures. It enables laboratories and industrial environments to simulate cold conditions for the accurate calibration of sensors and instruments. However, due to the potential hazards associated with cryogenic liquids – including frostbite, asphyxiation, and pressure build-up – it’s essential that personnel receive robust training on its safe handling and use.

Tailored Cryogenic Safety Training

Our range of cryogenic safety training workshops provide comprehensive information on the safe use, handling and storage of cryogenic gases/cryogenic liquids and associated equipment in a wide variety of environments including research, laboratory, healthcare and industry.

You can opt to have theory-only training, or theory with a practical element, which can be a demonstration by our trainer or a longer hands-on session involving your staff.

Client Workshop: Theory and Practice Combined

The session that we undertook for this client was a ‘refresher workshop‘ that involved a classroom awareness session followed by a practical demonstration of liquid nitrogen decanting from a low-pressure storage vessel into a smaller working flask.

Through an understanding of the client’s operation and their expressed training needs we were able to deliver a safety training workshops that precisely met their requirements.

Feedback from Staff

We received the following feedback from the staff:

Provided all the refresher information to keep us up to date with guidance around using liquid nitrogen, handling and safety.

Instructor was engaging, informative and approachable.

The pacing of the LN2 course went well, lots to take in but including breaks, which kept us engaged.

Really enjoyed the course, the course leader was very friendly and personable. Having very limited experience prior with liquid nitrogen I found myself learning a lot and now feel much more confident using it for calibration work.

The course was organised well and adequate for a refresher course (not too long winded but covered everything necessary). The course leader provided valuable feedback regarding how we currently decant liquid nitrogen and alternatives and ways to improve our companies first aid procedures regarding liquid nitrogen.
