Gas Safety in Laboratory Environments

Our choice of Laboratory Gases Safety Awareness Workshops give participants a firm understanding of the key safety issues associated with the handling, storage and use of cylinder gases within laboratories and other similar environments. The workshops develop risk awareness through the identification of hazards found in everyday situations and participants will learn about the gas safety issues relative to their specific roles, together with the steps required to maintain safe working conditions.

An understanding of hazards and the ability to assess risks within laboratories and other similar environments is vital in today’s Health and Safety conscious workplace, these workshops help to develop these critical skills as well as helping staff to improve their knowledge and awareness of the compressed gases used within their particular working environment.

  • Laboratory Gases (Including Piped Systems)

This 4 hour workshop is designed for anyone who uses, handles or stores cylinder gases in a laboratory or other similar environment, it is also highly recommended for Managers and Supervisors who are responsible for the safe use of gases. The workshop includes information relating to piped / manifold systems that utilise individual cylinders, multiple cylinders or MCP’s (Manifold Cylinder Pallets).

It can form the foundation for an associated practical training workshop, or be run in isolation.
  • Safe Use of Manifold Systems Practical

This 2 hour workshop gives gives participants the opportunity to further their learning by practising the correct changeover, connection and leak test of gas cylinders on a gas manifold system.

It can only be attended by delegates who have completed Safety Awareness Training; it cannot be run in isolation.
  • Laboratory Gases (Excluding Piped Systems)

This 3½ hour workshop is designed for anyone who uses, handles or stores cylinder gases in a laboratory or other similar environment, it is also highly recommended for Managers and Supervisors who are responsible for the safe use of gases.

It can form the foundation for an associated practical training workshop, or be run in isolation.
  • Connecting Regulators & Cylinder Set-up Practical

This 2 hour workshop gives participants the opportunity to practice the safe set-up and leak test of gas cylinders in a practical environment.

It can only be attended by delegates who have completed Safety Awareness Training; it cannot be run in isolation.
  • Using Laboratory Gases Safely

This workshop combines gas safety awareness with practical training to provide all the essential information that gas users require in a concise half-day package.

The workshop includes a demonstration on how to correctly connect a regulator and hose assembly to a gas cylinder. It has been developed for all personnel who use, handle or store laboratory gases.
  • Combined Laboratory Gases & Cryogenics Safety

This workshop is tailored to your needs to provide safety awareness for all personnel who use, handle or store compressed cylinder gases and cryogenic liquids. The workshop can include information on piped systems if required.

It can form the foundation for either one, or both, of its associated practical training workshops, or be run in isolation.
  • Safe Use of Single Cylinder and Manifold Systems Practical Workshop

The 3 hour workshop gives participants the opportunity to further their learning by practising the correct changeover, connection and leak test of single gas cylinders and also those used on a gas manifold system.
  • Safe Manual Handling of Gas Cylinders

Many staff do not use compressed gases themselves, but have responsibilites for their movement around site. They should therefore know how to move them in a safe manner and appreciate the hazards of the cylinders they are moving.

This workshop contains both theory and practical elements and provides all the essential safety information that staff require to ensure that cylinders are handled safely.
