MIG Welding (GMAW)

Our MIG Welding Training Workshop is an instructor-led practical based training event for up to 8 delegates. The 1½ day training workshop is designed for all personnel engaged in or supervising MIG (GMAW) welding.

Benefits include:-

  • Safer, better informed operators
  • Reduced risk of of personal injury or plant damage
  • Increased operator skill levels and reduced reject rates
  • Increased productivity and reduced downtime

The training gives delegates the opportunity to practice their process skills under the guidance of our trainer, while also receiving essential safety awareness information.

Practical MIG (GMAW) Welding Training Workshop Overview

  • Personal safety
  • Safe use of shielding gases
  • Safety in the use of equipment
  • Electrical safety
  • The need for extraction
  • Dip, globular and spray transfer modes
  • Selection of the correct shielding gases
  • How shielding gases work
  • Adjustments of current and voltage control
  • Correct wire selection
  • How a MIG machine works
  • Component parts of a MIG machine
  • Correct set-up of a MIG machine
  • Correct use of torch angle
  • Correct set-up and tacking procedures
  • Rectification of faults
  • Correct travel speed
  • Bead on plate and fillet joints in the flat position
  • Practice to reach an acceptable standard

What You Will Learn

The workshop will enable participants to:

  • Appreciate the importance of safe working procedues and to be aware of the consequences of adopting poor working practices
  • Develop an awareness of the hazards associated with the welding process and to approach risk assessments in a real world situation
  • Correct welding techniques - theoretical fundamentals of the MIG process, which are then reinforced during the practical sessions
  • Improve skill levels - the initial practical focuses on the correct set-up of a MIG welding set and how to fault find. The second practical session gives delegates the opportunity to practice techniques; recognise, appreciate causes of and rectify faults; adjust voltage and current settings to suit the work being undertaken; weld in the flat condition to an acceptable standard
