Risk Assessments

What is a Risk Assessment?Risk Assessment is at the heart of safety legislation and is the key to achieving success in managing health and safety. The law requires that a "suitable and sufficient" Risk Assessment be carried out BEFORE work is started. If you have not fulfilled this most basic of requirements you are in breach of the law and may face enforcement action or even be prosecuted. A Risk Assessment is nothing more than a careful examination of what in your work could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether or not you have taken enough precautions, or you should do more to prevent harm. The aim is to make sure that no-one gets hurt or becomes ill. A Risk Assessment should usually involve identifying the hazards within operations, activities, processes etc, and then evaluating the extent of the risks to people, plant, equipment, property or environment, taking into account whatever precautions have already been made. However, certainly with gases, if you don’t know what the potential hazards are in the workplace, it’s extremely difficult to spot them and produce an accurate assessment of the likelihood of an accident occurring. Gas Safe Consultants are able to assist you in undertaking a systematic, general examination of your work activities and produce a detailed Risk Assessment that can be signed off by yourself or other members of your organisation. What can we offer? The Risk Assessment gives employers a look into the future as it provides them with both hazard and risk data in the form of a written document and allows a calculated prediction for potential loss to be made. The employer, armed with this information, can then put preventative measures into place to safeguard against exposure to these hazards. We are able to assist in the production of gas specific Risk Assessments covering the following areas:
How does the process work? When you contact us we will arrange a suitable time and date for one of our Assessors to visit your site(s). The Assessor will contact you a week before the site visit to discuss any site specific requirements you may have. During the site visit our Assessor will undertake a thorough examination of your work activities, identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate solutions. What does it cost?We charge our time on an hourly basis as, until we arrive on site, we don't know the full extent of the Risk Assessment(s) to be conducted. For time spent on site our fees are £125 per hour, with a minimum of 3.5 hours being payable. For time spent producing the Risk Assessment(s) our fees are £62.50 per hour. All prices are subject to vat at the standard rate. What documentation will I get?Following the visit you will receive a detailed Risk Assessment document that you sign-off and use to produce a prioritised action plan for reducing risk levels within the work area. You will also be able to use the document(s) to inform staff affected by the Risk Assessment of its findings. The document follows a ‘checklist format’ and enables a quick review of actions to be undertaken: |
