Liquid Nitrogen Decanting

Our Liquid Nitrogen Practical Workshop gives participants the opportunity to further their learning by practising to safely decant liquid nitrogen in a practical environment.

The 2 hour workshop is aimed at staff, managers, supervisors, health and safety officers, technicians and risk managers who use liquid nitrogen and associated equipment in a laboratory or other similar environment.

Please note that prior to attending this workshop all delegates must have received safety awareness training. This is can be delivered in the traditional way by an instructor, or it can be completing online via e-Learning. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

• Review of the properties of liquid nitrogen
• Filling and vessel location
• Team Exercise:-
• Pipework identification, the design and function of cryogenic vessels
• Practical Session, conducted utilising a low-pressure vessel and either a working flask or dewar, includes:-
• The need for Personal Protective Equipment
• The need for oxygen monitoring systems
• Valve identification
• Pre-fill checks
• The need to decant at the correct pressure
• Delegate practical decanting

What You Will Learn

The workshop will enable participants to:

• Correctly identify cryogenic vessels
• Recognise how cryogenic vessels operate
• Identify key safety features on a cryogenic vessel
• Be aware of the hazards posed by cryogenic liquids
• Undertake pre-use safety checks on vessels and dewars
• Safely vent excess vessel pressure prior to decanting
• Control hazards when decanting cryogenic liquids
• Appreciate the need for safe decanting procedures
• Recognise the need for ventilation and oxygen monitors
• Introduce safe working practices into their working environment

Workshop Price

The workshop is priced at £800 for up to 8 delegates, additional delegates at £100 per head. VAT is payable at the standard rate.

A maximum of 12 delegates may attend. Certificates of attendance and delegate workbooks will be issued.
