Assess the potential risks from gases

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 place a legal requirement on employers to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill health.

Hazardous substances include:

  • Substances used directly in work activities (e.g. gases)
  • Substances generated during work activities (e.g. fumes from welding or soldering)

What COSHH requires:

  • Assess the risks
  • Decide what precautions are needed
  • Prevent or adequately control exposure
  • Ensure that control measures are used and maintained
  • Monitor the exposure
  • Carry out appropriate health surveillance
  • Prepare plans to deal with accidents, incidents and emergencies
  • Ensure employees are properly informed, trained and supervised

Have you assessed the risks to health from the gases used on site?
Do you have standard operating procedures covering the safe use of gases on site?
Do you have emergency plans concerning the gases used on site?
Have all employees been trained on how to correctly use the gas cylinders on site?

Our training workshops provide delegates with essential information to ensure that they work in a safe manner and reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous substances.
